Emily Lanigan
(She / Her)
Hi! I’m Emily, a qualified coach working with children, young people, families and adults who are dealing with neurodiversity and all of the complexities that can bring to life.
Like lots of young women in education, my own neurodiversity went unnoticed. I was an A star student, socially capable and constantly being praised for my hard work. However, inside it felt as though my legs were moving a hundred miles an hour under the water simply to keep me afloat. It wasn’t until I left college that I realised that life isn’t always supposed to feel that difficult!
I thought the struggles would end once I left schooling, but soon found myself jumping from job to job and struggling to find where I really ‘fit’ or what I really wanted. At 21, I was diagnosed with ADHD and suddenly, the pieces of my puzzle began to fall into place. I jumped head first into accessing the available support and found myself in front of a coach for the first time. The impact coaching had on me left its mark, and I decided that this was the path that I too would like to take.
Fast forward to today and I now work with schools and families to provide coaching and psychoeducation for ADHD, anxiety and other neurodiversities. I find immense value in supporting young people who are beginning to understand how to make their brain work for them! It’s a job I am proud to do, and wake up everyday excited to play a role in guiding others towards their goals.
My ‘coaching tool belt’ is made up of lots of qualifications and experience, from life coaching certifications and several years in education support, to (an almost completed!) BSc in Psychology with Counselling. Working with NOWS is something I feel very privileged to be able to do, and I am very much looking forward to working with many more amazing young people, adults and families!
